I'm thinking about buying a Canon Rebel T2i body and getting a lens separate. See my last thread (lol). I plan on shooting a lot of horseback riding and would like a little zoom. My budget is $250 and that includes tax. I know that I can't expect a lot, but I figured that a $200 dollar lens bought separately would be better than the kit. What lens do you think would fit my needs? I would prefer if it was available at bestbuy. Thanks guys! Especially if you have been answering all of my questions!

You better stick to craigs list with that budget, honestly. I guess I would look towards a 28-135mm F3.5-5.6 IS, At that price for a zoom there isnt a lot. You could get a 70-300 non IS, or maybe a tamron or Sigma zoom, but again it will be used.

At that budget, I think your only option is the 55-200mm (Canon may also make a 55-300, not sure) kit lens. They're not great for your stated purposed in that they're not a terribly long zoom, and they're slow (small maximum aperture, not ideal for low-light). Your best bet will be to save up for a better lens such as the 70-200 or 300mm f4. You can also rent lenses.

Thanks everybody. You really helped me make my decision!

I'm curios as to what your decision was :P This thread currently is a big anti-climax :P

See my previous post! Everything is in there!

Thanks everybody. You really helped me make my decision! I'm getting the T3i Kit, an SD card, and a bag this weekend, then for the next month or so I will save up for a nicer lens. Expect more questions in the future! :)

Even though here he says he getting the T2i and better glass. In the other post he said T3i Kit. So, not sure lol

It's the one you just quoted. This thread is kind of a "what if" thing :)

So have you gone for similar camera and **** lens ?

I'm going with either the t2i with **** lens or a t3i with **** lens. So I'm getting the slightly better camera for only $100 more with an articulating screen (Which will probably be very helpful to me) and I'm going to be saving up for a better lens that is in the $500 range.

What will you use the articulating screen for ? can't see the point of them just something else that could easily break

I will probably be doing a lot of videography so it can come in handy then. And it will also protect the screen when I flip it towards the inside. The T3i also has the snapshot mode for videography that I like a lot.
