a little confused

well i posted in an earlier thread a picture of mine that had made it to the first page of google images with a common query

however when i last viewed the link it took me to my deviant art, and gave me full credit....

well for some reason that link was changed to go to a small blog in which not only does it not link to my site, nor does it give me credit, but they actually took the time to download my image, remove my exif data, and upload it with no way of knowing that i took that picture


i am a little upset about this now.

i already contacted the owner of the blog, and got no respons, so i tried to see if there was a way i could contact google about the change, but i can only do that if i have a legitimate copyright claim, and if i dont, they basically said they would sue me

so im not really sure what to do at this point, because i don't feel this is important enough top actually contact a lawyer, as google's contact page suggested, but i'm still rather upset, more than anything however, im just curious why that change happened at all.

There is the concept of 'fair use', however the feds note that - The distinction between fair use and infringement may be unclear and not easily defined. There is no specific number of words, lines, or notes that may safely be taken without permission. Essentially, 'fair use' has to be decided on a case-by-case basis, usually in a federal court.

If you put photos online, expect them to get stolen. Online image theft is rampant. The only way you can have the legal clout to fight back is by registering the copyrights of all your images. When you're takedown notice includes your copyright registration certificate number it carries a lot more weight.

i honestly don't think this should be a legal issue, i just want to get the link changed back to the way it originally was

i just read some of those links and, like it suggested, i went back to get a screen capture

it was removed, but the link in google still goes to their blog

now that they removed it hopefully it will go back to my site, but I think it is more likely to just be removed

just to follow up, i just searched it again, and now about a month after they took it down, it's back to the original link, where i uploaded it

Taking care and attention with our public communications is a way of showing respect for the reader and for the language. It indicates that the writer did give some consideration to what he was writing. I tend to give more credence to a communication, wether a post or an e-mail, when some effort was made towards proper capitalization and punctuation. A post with all lower case and a clear disregard to punctuation is simply, at best, a sign of laziness.

It's my opinion, yours may differ.
