Well I went back today to get some more shots, this time however it was much later in the day and (for a person with only the rubbishy built in flash (which I forgot even existed) the bluebells in the woods just did not come out as well - too much blurr and noise.
So I headed out and into the sunlight and found a nice tree:

Shot with Canon EOS 400D and sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 DG macro

any advice? I was a little bolder with the settings this time around, but without a proper flash I think I will have to really get to the woods earlier to get the light needed.

Bump - with content :)
Went back today again this afternoon - a good run of shots this time around with more light in the woods. So far only 1 off the camera and processed - I think I might have overdone it with the sharpening
As always any comments are welcome

#1 is pretty good!

The post you added later is pretty awesome looking with the solid-ish BG... Nice!!!

Hmm, your shroom had a solid BG too huh? <wonders to self>

The solid background in the shroom came from a bit of a boost to the Blacks in RAW edit - looked like this before

However the very blured background come from having 300mm macro - which is why quite a few macro users will use teleconverters on macro lenses to boost the focal length even more to get that effect.
