Agreed, this is a beautiful scene, well captured.
I would just LOVE to go over to the Smokies and get some nice fall pictures of my mountains, but I simply cannot abide the tourists! And the problem here, with the GSMNP being, by far, the most visited National Park in the states, the crowds are RIDICULOUS from the time the leaves even begin to hint at changing until well after they are on the ground. Weekends are certainly the worst, but there is NO *good* day, in terms of not having a lot of people around, in October. There ARE a lot of trails that the tourists don't use (you know, anything marked "Moderate" or above that is more than 1/2 mile long and doesn't lead to a waterfall at the end…), but to get TO those, you still have to drive in All. That. Traffic. And I just don't DO the tourist traffic. I can get into part of the Smokies going a back way, but it's really long, and you still end up having to deal with about 5 miles of the tourist traffic.
EDIT: But, those are all excuses. Because there ARE plenty of places, practically in my backyard, where I probably COULD get those sort of shots. I need to start scouting locations...
