OK picking up a few tricks from markc and to prove that I was listening, ;) this is the first attempt at putting those tricks to work. He's also hooked me on black & white.

Welcome back, Jade!

I like # 4 the best. Nice composition, good contrast, good exposure.
I'd say #2 was my favorite but there's a couple hot spots (at least on my crappy monitor).

I agree that #1 and #3 have too much empty space. There is a lot of the image that has no information in it. This can work, but it's tricky to have it keep people's attention.

I like #2 the best even with the hot spots. One of the interesting things I noticed was that I saw the negative space as having a 3D face because of the dimensional cues coming from is seen. I see the black on the right as sloping off into the distance, even as it blends into it.
 
I love the composition on all of them. The gear especially. It looks to me though that hardly anything in the pictures are in crisp focus. Maybe it's just my eyes this morning :roll:
