Activities to practice photography?

I don't know that activity is the right word, but i'm looking for online resources that give you ideas on how to set certain things up to shoot and progress your skills as you practice on that set assignment.

An example not dealing with photography...if a bowler wants to perfect his spin technique he practices over and over with a set hand position, until it's as close to perfect or up to his acceptance level. (Maybe a horrible example)

Maybe something for table or product shots that kind of lay out the groundwork so you can set up properly and go through the details to see the difference they make as you go along.

Are you assuming 'the telephone position' when you posted this ? You answered your own question.

Telephone position? I realize you can do this yourself if you know how to adjust, but being able to go through an assignment of sorts that tells you to adjust one thing at a time to better the photograph would be really helpful so that I may be able to duplicate what someone has done already.
