So I found a few good deals locally on CL for a Canon Xsi... EDIT: I am now looking at the T1i instead of the Xsi.

What is everyone's opinion on this camera, and also, if you own one, do you like it? do you hate it? All advice/opinions welcome!

It's probably "ok/pretty good". What are you comparing it to? What have you used?

I currently shoot with ( I know, I know) a Nikon D50... but i'm itching to upgrade.

Oh and I have no preference to either Canon or Nikon. But I have noticed that every photographer that I have ever taken my kids' to, has used a Canon.

thats a great reason to use canon!

Better color-depth, comparable dynamic range, higher useable ISO, better pixel pitch, 14 bits per pixel rather than the D50's 12, faster frame-rate, base ISO of '100' compared to the D50's 200 ISO, focal-length multiplier of 1.6 instead of D50's 1.5.

The real question is what are you planning on doing as far as glass? If you're planning the kit lens route, I don't think you'll see a whole lot of difference. I've still got my old 350D (XT), and with good glass, it takes better pics than you'd think a second generation Rebel would. The XSi is two generations newer than my Reb, so it'll be that much better. I don't know what kind of money you have available for camera gear, but I would suggest if you move to a newer body, spend a little on a lens as well. An entry level camera with a kit lens on it is pretty much the same no matter who's name is on it.

The XSI is a great camera to start with. I agree with subscuck, you should consider putting a little money in glass as well.

Pretty much I want to be able to take my kids' pictures instead of pay for them and maybe take some great nature shots while i'm at it.....and ultimately one day, I'd like to become a photographer

Also, the Xsi (which i'm getting for $400) comes with the 50 mm 1.4

Out of the

Nikon D3000
Nikon d3100
Canon Xsi (450D)
Canon t3 (1100d)

what one would you buy?
