You can do this is manual mode as well. Use spot metering and meter off the highlights.

Absolutely, lots of ways to do it but centering the marker on the exposure bar every time isn't one of them.

Underexposing the image somehow was what needed to be done, I just explained how I usually do it.

Oh - I wasn't disagreeing with you. I actually agree with you - i was just saying you could do it in manual as well
