Advise from 50D to D7

Would it be big a improvement in picture quality from Canon 50D to D7 II body? Any other body suggestion welcome. Mostly do swim meet pictures for my sons and only use like once a month.
My budget is $1,500, I can go up to $2,000 if other body will be much much better than D7 in picture quality.

FWIW - 7D, not D7.

No, not a big improvement, regardless what camera you upgrade to.
Big improvement is about the photographer upgrading their knowledge and skill, good light direction and quality, and letting the camera make as few decisions as possible.

True. There's also lens choice making a bigger difference to image quality than a new camera.

EDIT [22 Aug.]: Just saw the gear you have in your signature. (I was on mobile when I replied, so I didn't see it.) Lenses don't get much better than what you currently have, so skill, technique and light it is.
