Interesting that the D5000 doesn't allow you to move the focus point. My 10 year old Fujifilm S2 Pro has that option.

You can move the focus point. The OP was wondering how to get the camera to automatically track the subject once the focus is locked in. To do so, requires shifting the camera from AF Single Area to AF 3d Tracking.

In the lower model cameras, I would agree with you. On a D3s, I would not.

Even on the D3s it sucks. The idea is there, the execution is not (yet). I've never seen it work real well on a D300, my D700, or my friends D3.
