As many of you might know Kenya holds the world record for the most number of species spotted over 24 hours. I dont do much birding but do enjoy capturing some of them while im looking for bigger game. Here are a few from last month.

The colors of that first bird are amazing. I enjoyed everything about Africa the one & only time I've been there, I hope to get back soon and do much better with the camera.

These are very nice. Based on my experience, you were either very patient or very lucky to get those pictures of the rollers (lilac- breasted?) in flight. I have had very little luck getting images of these in flight - good capture. You are right, Africa has some of the most colourful and a few odd looking birds. Great place for birders and for those who like to photograph them.

Did you manage to get any of the bigger birds - vultures, storks, herons, fish eagles, ostriches, etc? Just curious, because they can be scarce or in great abundance depending on the time of year and the location.

Hi, thanks, the lilac breasted was luck as we were driving along, the superb starlings are also very colorful and are quite common around the camps. I got shots of all the birds mentioned including some interesting vulture footage. Managed to see a group of around 15 ostriches which is unusual a few herons, storks, black kites. we did mara, serengeti, amboseli and ngorongoro so covered quite a bit of ground. In march im doing navasha/nakurau and mara so should get a few more interesting species by the lake. Will post some more when im done editing

I am jealous :biggrin-93: . You got to all the places that I have been and would like to return to. I am not going back to Africa until my trip next fall to Namibia. I am really looking forward to that one. Do you ever run any tours to Botswana or South Africa - Kruger, Sabi Sands? I have been to Botswana and would like to go back, but I have yet to visit South Africa.

Fifteen (adult?) ostriches in one place - very unusual. I think the most I have seen might be four or five, although we did see a mated pair with about 15 young ones when I was in Kenya a couple of years ago. I am looking forward to seeing more of your pictures. Some of mine are posted in my Flickr page.

Hi, I dont got to South africa anymore, I find I can see more over a shorter period in East Africa. Botswana is on my radar but right now mara is my main spot. enjoyed your flicker shots and connected with you, im off again in march might take a longer lens this time
