The first one is a little bit of a more experimental style of editing that I'm playing with lately. All three were captured in natural light.

#2 for me

Superb ambient light work as always Dan - two rather minor niggles for consideration. In #1, I'd like to see him a little less centered in the image, and in #2, the hand over the crotch just seems awkward to me. I think 'thumb hooked in teh trouser pocket' would have made this a much stronger image.

Otherwise, wow! He's very easy on the eyes, isn't he? I feel like #2 needs a Ryan Gosling "hey girl" meme.

I am just shocked there is a fully clothed man in a photo of yours. course you can't see below so odds are he has no pants.

Anyways. I always like how you can make your photos seem warm and cold at the same time. Very good work.

Excellent as always, Dan the Man. I disagree with the hand comments. That image is by far the strongest, imo, and the hand on the crotch reinforces that strength. The eyes are simply smoking. The waistband, out of focus upper right hand corner, and corner to corner composition all combine to produce a well thought out and outstanding portrait. Now get rid of that reed by his left side.

I actually like the reed in #2. It's caressing him. That just adds to the mood of an already very sensual image.

#3 is also pretty great. My niggle with that one is that I wish there were more tension in his pose. For me, the slight slouch plus the languid facial expression doesn't read 'relaxed' but rather makes him seem a bit vacant instead.

I hadn't looked at it in that manner. Perhaps Dan could explain the reed.
On 3, maybe the OP was going for an aloof look. Thing about portraits they are usually made for the people depicted in them. When I used to do that type of work, we would discuss what emotion was to be depicted if it was a professional. I'm thinking Dan does that as well.

I agree - Dan does that exceedingly well. It's one of the reasons I always open his threads, even though portraiture is generally low on my list of preferred genres. It does generally seem like a very relaxed pose in #3 and the photo is overall excellent. I just personally would prefer a bit more tension in the shoulders or mouth to cross that very fine line between relaxing and zoned out.
