All-Time Favorite Lens... GO!

This question has been around forever, right? Well as time goes on people's "favorites" may change...


So I would like to know what lens (fits Nikon) that you would die to have, or already have.


And..... GOO!

The one I get the most use out of, without a doubt, is the Sigma 70-200 mm F/2.8 OS. But I also have a 50 mm 1.8 AF-S G that I really love.

Probably the old Nikkor 180mm f/2.8.

I just absolutely love my tokina 16-28. I constantly talk this lens up, but it really is an amazing piece of glass. It's heavy, and the filters are a pain, but the sharpness always impresses me.

It really does all depend what one uses it for...

So far my favorites are the 16-85mm, 70-200mm, 85mm prime, 18-200mm and the tokina 11-16mm. Though I have only owned the 18-200mm, in which I will be making some new lens purchases very soon!

I'm half tempted to get that Tokina 16-28mm, if I find good results from it, would you mind sharing some shots jsecordphoto?

I would LOVE a 500mm plus lens for moon shots! Yes, moon shots... Not worth the money atm but maybe in the near future!

Even with 500 mm and a 1.5x or 1.6x crop sensor camera a photo of the moon will need a major crop.

Back in the day I used a 16 inch telescope that had a 2600 mm folded focal length (Cassegrain) to make uncropped images of the moon.

I agree completely!

This is done at 200mm with an obvious crop.. I would just love to test out a super zoom lens...

Hmmm that's hard. Sigma 50-500 was my most used lens of 2014. I really enjoy the 50 1.8 G. But when it really counts I reach for the Nikon 24-70 2.8 for the versatility and good results. The 80-200 28 doesn't see much use. But if I'm shooting a ball game it's the one I grab every time. Love that lens. Just not practical for most of my shooting. (AFD 2 ring)

I've used the Nikon 14-24 2.8, not the 12-24, 24-85, or sigma 24-70. The 12-24 is DX, and f4- not something I'd use as I do a lot of landscape astrophotography. The 24-70, etc. are just totally different lenses. 16mm and 24mm is a huge difference on a full frame camera. Now the 14-24 is an amazing piece of glass, but I didn't feel it was worth like $1400 more than the Tokina.

I don't know. I had a moment of love today in the local camera store... played with the Sigma 35 1.4 ART and was BLOWN away with how sharp it is. Here it is in the store, crappy lighting, wide open and at minimum focus distance...
