- -of Pompeii, there were several "take out" restaurants.
Shooting in the strong midday sun was a problem for me, particularly dealing with it with my very limited editing skills. The original of this shot was a total white out on the right.

Nice picture.

I don't know if I wanna know what they were taking out of those holes there... maybe a big bowl of spaghetti I hope!

Amazing how good of Romans we are.
The only thing we have they didn't was iPhones.

I suspect that the cooking vessels sat over the holes.

This was a full fledged city with different areas. We got to tour the "red light" district but I have not processed any of those shots yet.

The sophistication is extraordinary.

They had the concwpt of the screw and other facets. If they had figured electricity there is no telling.

Not only that, in some ways they and other societies in history were more technologically advanced than us now but somehow, that technology was lost. It brings the question, how did they acquire that technology so long ago? Maybe that's a question better for the show, "Ancient Aliens."

The one thing that I was surprised that the ancients had was the ability to create a DC current battery, which was then used to electroplate gold onto jewelry.

They used to use an
earthenware or pottery vessel to make the battery out of.

Georgio T. aside, the creation of differential electrical generation from what I have read actually goes back even further than that.
Pre-Hammurabi if I remember.

I keep saying that we amaze ourselves with 3000 years of "advance" in technology, yet man has been at least as we know, running the show for over 35K years and yet it took us 33K of those to achieve the ability to write?

Seriously?
