Here's another shot from a different trip down to Lake Trillium. Some very nice soft pink light on Mt. Hood at dusk.

How does an image like this get 50 views and not a single comment?

Fantastic image, Majeed – everything clicks. I would consider removing the contrail and also losing about 30% of the sky, but other than that this one's a big winner for me.

I like it as it is, contrail and all. Why would you want to remove the contrail? I think that pictures like this get their value from veracity. I also think that a contrail is a perfectly valid compositional element. The contrail was there when the picture was taken, so was the artificially-illuminated wooden rail. Both of those add visual information to the image.

Was it really alpenglow? It looks more like normal last sun.

Thanks Federico! I deliberated those 2 very same things. Ultimately decided to leave the contrail since it somewhat echoes the slope of the mountain.

I do have a little room at the top of frame to bring it in a little bit and will explore that. But Probably not very much because one of the key elements of the comp is that tree in the center, which I'd want to leave adequate room..

I wouldn't know about the first viewers, but sometimes there just isn't anything of great importance to write. For me, either the shot is wonderful, or it is terrible, leaving me with no worthwhile comment.

In this case, the shot is wonderful just as it is. It has good balance, all the technicals are correct, and the frame has good proportions. What is left to say?

Nice. Classic scenic-type composition. Yeah, the contrail issue...there are a lot of photographers who absolutely LOATHE them...others not so much...my feeling is that in a scene like this, with the obvious man-made railing, I don't think a contrail is that big of an issue, whatsoever. But to those who loathe "the hand of man" in ANY nature type photo, they would flip out on this shot...

That'd be me, due to the subjects I usually shoot. I can agree that it's not that big of an issue here, but I believe it doesn't add anything to the composition (even if it doesn't detract much) – if removing it is an easy job, then why not?
