Alright... You Canon people - I need you!

Okay so I posted about a week ago for a trade someone offered me for my Nikon D7000 I have for sale.

I decided to decline that deal, as many recommended.


I have received another deal...

Here are the items I will be including in the trade:
Nikon D7000 camera body
Nikon 12-24mm f/4


Items the other person is including in the trade:
Canon 60d camera body
Canon 50mm 1.8
Canon 85mm 1.8
Canon 28-135mm

Since I don't read much up on Canon, I have no idea where to start, except to compare prices.

What I want to know is all that canon gear good gear, or are there flaws I need to know about. As well as if its a decent trade?


REMEMBER: I do have a Nikon d7100 and a 18-200mm right now (my upgraded camera).

Ok, not a Canon guy - but if you already have money invested in Nikon why would you want the expense of trying to support two non-compatible systems?

You said thoughts, why get Canon if you already have a d7100.

Anyway 60d is comparable with d7000 plus it has swivel screen. 50mm lens is good though not to well built and there are better 50s. The 85mm is great, fast, sharp and quiet. I had the 28-135 and it was very poor on a 50d, then I used one on a 1ds and it was ok, so not sure. Value wise I'd say the Canon gear is worth more

I would say value wise they are about even, personally I would take the Nikon d7100 over the canon 60d and I have a canon 60d. I agree with the others, why are you looking to switch?

As other said it makes no sense to own 2 different systems.
Both Nikon and Canon 60D are old cameras that were out of production for a while now, wouldn't bother replace one old camera with an other old one.
This whole thing makes no logic or merit in my eyes.

I'm trying to understand why, if you have a D7100, you'd want to split your system and have both a Canon and Nikon body. This puts you in the position where anytime you buy a lens, you'll need to decide if you want to buy the lens for the Nikon body vs. the Canon body and you end up having to buy far more equipment than you should need to if you'd just stick with the D7000 you have now.

If you really don't want two camera bodies and just want to get rid of the D7000... sell it and use the money to buy lenses or other gear you might need for your D7100.

The thing is I can get a better deal if I trade the gear then sell what I trade it for. I have had several offers but people are not willing to spend what it is worth.

I would merely be using the Canon for "play" use, test the waters and see what Canon is about. I would definitely not keep both Canon and Nikon gear...

Let me add this then.
I think the D7000 is a better camera then the 60D so the way I see it you will downgrade your exciting camera.
The D7000 has a better AF system, better Dynamic range and better low light performance.
Not a huge step better but its there.
If you are itching to try something else then I would suggest look at Pentax, they use also Sony sensors and are very interesting cameras.
Sony's SLT cameras are also interesting even though I don't think they are as good as Nikons equivalent but they are slightly different with their fused transparent mirror and thus interesting to use.
