qt... if you are reading this i need help trying figure out how best to capture my kids sledding. I Want to try and get the "trail" of motion.

Using d50 with 35mm 1.8 and tokina 11-16

should i be shooting in shutter priority.

thanks

Seems like u are desiring to shoot w flash?

1, you will get more apparent motion using the 35mm. Wider the angle of the lens, the less apparent movement, as everything seems farther away. Imagine for instance a jet in the distance, barely moving across the sky, versus a car at 50MPH going right past you. The car seems faster.

More telephoto you go, the move the feel of movement.

2, You want to use Rear Curtain Flash Sync and Slow Shutter Speed

See article here for a bit more on this topic: http://glamourphotography.co/?p=368

thanks for the links.
panning is not what i want, panning a white background will give me white.

i will try zoom and getting more straight on with tripod

Set up a tripod and use shutter priority on your camera, like you thought. Set the shutter speed to say 1/60, 1/10, 1/8, 1/5 etc and try it with and without flash, see what turns out and experiment!

o hey tyler kept his camera at the same speed as the snow boarder, but you cold also keep the camera fixed at a certain point and snap the shot when the sledder enters field of view--It depends on whether you want the background or subject motion-blurred.

Is this the sort of thing you are after ?
