The thing with PSD, is that it's a Photoshop format...not a universal format. So it's not really a good choice for long term archiving.

Sure,but PS is Adobe. I'll post back when I get home but, as I recall, the warning was not related to lack of universality but, rather, had something to do with TIFF doing a better job of maintaining quality.

According to Adobe, PSD is less efficient than TIFF with regard to metadata updates.

JPEG is a more compact way of representing a photo than most other formats. Not to worry that it is smaller, this is why it was created. You loose some info when you convert from RAW in the sense that you cannot go back, but you don't spoil the photo in any way. JPEG is a lossy file format, though. The more times you re-save it, the lower the quality becomes.
