So I took my daughter and a friend of hers to the park today, and decided to try getting some very different types of shots while they were on the swing. I didn't want just another shot of them frozen at some point in the arc, and I didn't want them to be blurred in motion when everything around them was sharp.

So what I attempted was bringing the exposure down to about 1/2 or so, and pressing the shutter while I zoomed the lens to "track" the kids as they swung. I knew I wasn't going to get tack-sharp images of any sort, and so that's not what I was after. I did want to try to keep the child at roughly the same size throughout the exposure, but that was pretty hard to pull off.

Next time I'll definitely bring my tripod instead of hand-holding, because that would remove at least one variable. Also at one point I decided to use rear-curtain flash to try and bring some more definition to the kids, but I didn't bring my SB-600 so all I had was my popup flash, and that just wasn't going to help much with as bright as it was.

Anyways, here are the results - I'm definitely going to try this again some time, so any comments, critiques, and general thoughts are welcome!

An interesting idea. I like the first one, mostly because of the kids expression. Can't wait to see them with the sb600 on rear curtain. It'll be like any hardcore band shot, but of your kids!
