Android Phones

I'm an Apple guy; I've had the iPhone since the iPhone 3G. But now I'm considering making the jump to Android. No particular reason; just looking for something different - something new to learn. So for all you Android users out there - what phones would you recommend? I'm currently considering the HTC One M8, the One Remix, and the LG G3. I suppose I may also look at the GS5. But for those who have already made the decision - what phone did you choose and why?

I have an iPhone. Wife had Android, switched to iPhone, then switched to Windows. She wants iPhone again. I'm in the same situation; I've been with Apple since the 3G but would be willing to switch when someone provides a considerable improvement in the way of hardware or apps.

I know a Samsung person. Samsung person likes the large size of the screen compared to iPhone. They won't even consider phones with smaller size screens (i.e., the size of current iPhone). I personally don't like talking into phones that are the size of tablets.

Go to the store and use the demo units. Compare the features and find one that works for your personal tastes.

I dropped my iPhone 4s in coffee a month ago, and had to upgrade. I didn't want another iPhone because of the battery life and I wanted a bigger screen since I have to stream video from my phone. Anyways, my husband has the m7 and liked it , so I went with the m8. I miss several iPhone features, Like the highlight to define option. :-(
but I am adjusting.

I had an issue when I switched over where I couldn't text other iPhones. It took me a few weeks to figure out the issue. I ended up having to call Apple and have them disable imessage. If you do switch, and you disable I message BEFORE you disable the iPhone, you should avoid this potential problem.

I think both systems have their strengths and weaknesses, and its all a matter of which features mean more to you

Oh yeah! Once I found the in camera features available in android I felt jipped by Apple! Exposure comp, manual mode, "macro" mode. All sorts of goodies inside!!

I have Samsung Galaxy Note II and will upgrade to the Note IV when it's released. I love having the larger screen and I also enjoy playing with the stylus.

As far as Android goes, the ability to customize my phone almost endlessly with all the open source apps. Being able to switch launchers is fun for me. I can make my phone look and act like an iphone or a windows phone if I wish.

I also like that my last 3 or 4 phones use the same charger and same cable. My wife has iphone 5 and wishes she had Android again when she see's what I do with my note (she thinks Siri is stupid compared to my droid equivalent). Previously, we both had droid x and enjoyed those also.

Of the three you listed I would check out the G3. I love everything about my G2 except the focus speed. With that laser focus that should be an issue of the past. Plus it has the highest specs of any commercially/carrier available device. The battery life of my G2 is awesome easily lasting a full day with normal use. Even with the higher specs the G3 is supposed to be just as good or better. The M8 would be awesome but I cannot get past using the 4mp camera again.; It was decent when it was used in the original One, but should have been upgraded a fair amount IMO if HTC wanted to stay relevant.

Which carrier are you on?

I'm on Verizon and will likely stick with them as I can get a minor discount on the data service due to my employer. I don't like phones being too big, so phablets like the Samsung Note are definitely out. The size of the One, G3 and GS5 are shockingly big when compared to my iPhone 5, but I think I could get used to that size. The One Remix is a nice medium between the One M8 and the iPhone 5, but it's specs are underwhelming, at least compared to the M8.

I've been to the store to check them all out, but there's only so much one can learn about them while standing there and playing with the phones while also trying to fend off hungry salespeople. Plus I'm not able to really delve into each phone's UI/skin as much as I'd like.

I'm on Verizon too and if I were getting an upgrade right now I would go G3 all day.

The UI on the M8, S5 and G3 are similar but different. But, much of that is easily changed. I haven't used a stock keyboard in forever. I use a home replacement app call Apex that's similar to stock Android but with much more customization. Then there are home replacements like Themer that have hundreds of custom UI's. I play around with Themer from time to time.

I have the original htc one. I love it. Hands down the best phone I've ever used (have had a BB, iphone, samsung in the past) I've heard nothing but about the m8

We all switched from iPhones (4G/4GS) Samsung, I've got the S4 Active, wife has a S5, and our son has a Note 3. I'm about to upgrade to a S5, supposed to have the same processor as the Note 3, just a smaller body.

I love my note 3. Great processor, excellent screen, and I love having the stylus so when my eyefi card sends a picture to my phone I can edit it with photoshop touch and boom post it as soon as I am done. No need for my computer unless I am doing some serious editing

Yeah my mom is self employed and has a Note. She loves being able to sign all her contracts and agreements with then pen right on the device. In the past she would have to print, sign and then fax/upload. She has dozens of documents to sign each week and this has been revolutionary for her.

Same thing with me. I've had an iphone since like 2007 and switched to a galaxy S4 about a year ago. I haven't looked back to iphone. I own a Mac and Apple Tv so I love apple, but it was nice to change it up since Iphones haven't changed that much. I didn't realize how much I'd like a bigger screen until I actually got the phone. Awesome for youtube

I love the phone so far! I can't believe the battery life. It's been amazing. Oh and I watch Netflix on it all the time. Good sound and crazy screen.
