Done last Spring, this portrait of an Angolan 42 yo grandma, was composed to be
a center fold spread with article title layout.

Since you do allow editing, I took the liberty of giving her a bit more clarity and, for that matter, color. Not knowing what the article was that would accompany the image, I cannot comment on the pose.

My reasoning for giving her a more vibrant look rests solely with her scarf which draws your attention to her and draws attention that she is a stylish, chic woman; thus, I made her so...which as always is just a matter of opinion and in no way meant to disparage your image or how you shot it.

The edit certainly has a bit more pop to it for sure.

Since you do allow editing…
The edit certainly has a bit more pop to it for sure.

As clearly stated:
"… composed to be a center fold spread with article title layout."

Consequently, the picture should not be too punchy but leave some visual
space to the title and text to be added. Otherwise, blinking neon tubes and
flashing LEDs would have to come into play.

The frame is justified by the finality in that centre fold + layout purpose.

— "… which as always is just a matter of opinion and in no way meant to dis-
parage your image or how you shot it."
No ombrage taken! :tongue-new:

Interesting that the photo you've posted as per the article is more punchy than the photo you posted for opinion. ? Kind of looks like my edit - which is fine. As per the layout, I merely noted that since I did not know the content, I could not comment on the pose. It helps me not at all now, since I do not speak or read French.

French, as Québecois from Montréal, is my mother tongue… still struggling
with English though.

The first posted picture is grey card measured and calibrated for WB following
the brief and is true to nature. Once paid, they can do what ever is appropriate.
In this case, the WB was warmed up and tonal values were lifted.

Claudia — the model — said she like the first better as it resembles more her real
skin tones. I explained that what I delivered was not meant to be a portrait of her
but a symbol photograph that is representing all visible minorities in Europe.
