sitting in the angry chair... angry walls that steal the air...

was playing around with my old shoot through umbrella and my speedlite...trying to get better with the off camera flash...trying to look mean. thought it was funny that the wall had this hung on it...
comments? thoughts?

Not too bad really. The Live SMILE sign and your expression play off one anther well. The toning of the shot is good. You appear bigger in this than in your tiny avatar photo, which makes you appear to be oh, four to five inches tall...hmmm...

haha yeah- the avatar pic is minuscule...i suppose i could have used a gridded snoot aimed at the wall behind me, and turned the speedlite down a bit? but that would require 2 lights, and i have only one... my goal was to have nice even lighting form my right... my umbrella is from the 60's and is in desperate need of an upgrade... i want to get a softbox... i gotta work on looking mean...

Really OLD umbrellas may become discolored and the fabric may shift to a very light yellow-ish color, as do some of the softbox fabric faces, and that dingy coloration can create a very nice, warm lighting effect...I have a pair of umbrellas from the mid-1980's and an old Photoflex Litedome XTC softbox, and the yellowed fabric on all three modifiers is actually kind of nice for use when I want a warm lighting effect, especially when used with uncoated flashtubes.
