looking at it from my phone, but it looks like a beautiful shot. at that speed, a tripod may not be necessary.

Nice shot, better than what I did this morning without a tri-pod.

While the fast shutter speed may make the tripod somewhat redundant in terms of camera shake, it makes it about 1000 times easier to frame the shot and get the focus just right - the focus is so crucial in getting a good moon shot. Using live view with manual focus is the only way to get it spot on. The tripod would have also allowed for you to use the lowest ISO and stop down your lens a bit more, which would sharpen things up a bit and help compensate for any slight miss in the focus.

I think you may have missed focus a bit. Here's a manual focus shot from tuesday night, because I was hand-holding the lens, I bracket my focus and take a lot of shots:

I agree with all of the above, but considering you don't have a tripod, (try get one soon ) I did not want to make you feel bad about the shot. I'd rather focus on how good it was without a tripod.

Cheer Tight Knot, I new it was a little out of focus. I must have taken about 50 shots and this is the only one that i got the whole moon framed. Looked ok when i was laying on the icy grass.

Thanks ;)
