A good habit to get into is scouting for locations whenever you're out driving around. I know of several locations where I could go for interesting out-of-doors shots with reasonable privacy, but that doesn't do you much good. There are a number of things to consider. First if it's a public location (park, etc) you may need a permit for "professional" photography, which these days is pretty much anything with an SLR. You will also have people stopping to look, even if the model is dressed in a snow-suit; photography is just something that seems to interest people. If you know of a safe, abandoned building, or area, they often make interesting locations. Our local fairgrounds have lots of wide open space and are little used most of the year, perhaps you have something similar? Is there a lakeshore or river with some seclusion?
