scenic shots does not equate to taking pictures of small things from far away (i am making the assumption that scenic means landscape or using the characteristics of the environment within your shot). people have sort of outlined the basics already read trizzo's post. what kit lens do you have? given its the d7000 ill go on a limb and assume its the 18-105 or 18-135 kit options. if so, use them, see whats missing from your shots or what you're finding limiting. if you're dead set on getting a new lens then we def will need a better understanding of what you'll want to be shooting: "scenic shots" is a very vague description.
of the top of my head (going from least expensive to most):
portraits: 85mm 1.8D, Sigma 85mm 1.4/Nikon 85mm 1.4D (you can find this for about the same price as the Sigma: your choice will then be based on the characteristics of the images produced and wheather you mind it being screw driven or lens motor driven autofocus) and the Nikon 85mm 1.4G.
everyday: Nikon 50mm 1.8D, 35mm 1.8DX, 50mm 1.8G, 18-200mm - walk-about lens jack of all trades but when stopped down accordingly as sharp as any other lens within the same aperture range (give or take slightly), 17-55 2.8G, 24-70 2.8G. Don't know how easily available it is but look around for the 17-35 2.8 or 28-70 2.8 (at least with enough looking around they are cheaper than the current trinity line up and are equally as good).
zoom zoom: Nikon 70-300, Nikon 80-200 AF-D 2.8 (arguably the best price-performance ratio atm. can hold up against the newer models too.) , Nikon 70-200 2.8G
macro: Nikon 105mm Macro or Sigma 150mm 2.8 Macro (btw these lenses dont need to be used for macro only). personally have 0 experience with either of the two but from reviews ive read and sample pictures ive seen it seems like the two id consider otherwise if i had the money to spend on it or felt ill really take my macro photography further than the occasional snaps id def look into the Nikon 200mm F4 AF-D (there is no point in getting this one if you're going to mostly use it outside its macro designed purposes. you can find telephoto primes for less.)
