i have a question about molding/casting something ... do u mold/cast with cement/clay ???

When I was a kid I used to cast figurines using plaster-of-paris (gypsum?) in rubber molds, things like ashtrays, ornaments etc.
Plaster-of-paris is the same stuff they use as a cast for broken limbs.
I suspect the environment the items are intended for would have a large bearing on what to use since plaster-of-paris wouldn't last long outdoors even if it was sealed somehow.
For outdoor use or harsh environments you might even consider using an epoxy as a casting material because that would be resistant to just about anything but darned expensive for large items.

Dew,
Not sure if it is too late to be usefull or not but I do quite a bit of casting work in resins, metal, plasters, plastics, etc....if you have specific questions let me know I'll try to answer best I can....
