any suggestions/recommendations on foliage photography?

With the leaves changing only a few short weeks away, I want to dedicate a few days off of work to taking pictures of the beautiful foliage on some of Connecticut's scenic roads. Any suggestions on ideal lighting, film, speed, and filters if any to create stunning foliage pictures?

Don't dismiss a day just because it's raining. The colors seem to "pop" more right after it has rained or while it's misting out.
Give it a shot.
