Appalachian Trail Thru Hikers

Got some pics of Appalachian Trail thru hikers going from Georgia to Maine taking about six months.
Pics were taken at a trailhead about one days hike into the 2,000 miles trail. Folks usually pickup a trail name.

Trail name: Arial, with her friend. Both are from Virginia hiking to Maine

Trail name: Postino is from Pennsylvania hiking to the halfway point in Virginia.

Jake and his father. Jake is heading to Maine. Father hiked just the first few days to get him off to a good start.

Beautiful scenery I am sure, but unfortunately I would tire after the first couple days and long for the comfort of my own bed.

What a wonderful set. These folks have a lot of determination to tackle the AT. I've hiked through the parts in Georgia: Springer Mountain I believe. It's rugged and gorgeous.

I've watched a number of Youtube AT bloggers from start to finish. Last year 3,000 began the hike and only 25% completed it. I got pics of a few stragglers as most are beyond Georgia now. It would be interesting to be a "trail angel" at a trailhead further north giving out free drinks and food and take a portrait of each. That would be a cool series. Below pic is Neil's Gap the first store on the trail. The trail runs right through the store on the walkway. The huge oak tree is full of hundreds of shoes from hikers. The trees at that high elevation are just budding out.

Agreed! They'd likely be grateful and more than willing to give you a shot.
