This is her get out of the wind resting location. She can see a bit from here but not much.
 
This may be a silly question, but are snowy owls typically ground dwellers, or at least more so than other owls? I'e seen an awful lot of images of them on the ground. Many more than I see in other owl species.

Yes. Their natural habitat is the arctic tundra. It's devoid of trees or much plant life greater than a few feet.
When they come south they will take up telephone poles or fence posts.
