There have been much better, technically speaking, shots of the Aurora taken. However, I'm in northwest MO and ANY sighting or shot of the aurora from here is exciting. Thanks to my inner space and science fanatic, I know what to look for during a geomagnetic storm and I've been lucky enough to witness them from my location twice in less than 2 years. There's some ISO noise and I had a bit of light pollution from the grain bins next to me. Unfortunately I couldn't leave my house to find a better location because my kids were sleeping and I had no one else to stay home. So I shot from the field outside my front porch. Having photographed the Aurora twice now, I know what I'll do differently next time if I ever get the chance.

It was a fantastic storm on the 17th and I'd have possibly chewed my left arm off to be in Canada or Alaska. The pictures I've seen come from those locations are breathtaking.

I'm jealous! Living on the Wet Coast, I've only seen ONE 'show' and that was when I was about 12 or 13. I would love a chance to get up north and shoot them.

Oh I would too! Last time I saw them was June 2013 and it was a much better show for my location then. I was able to drive away from my town and get out in the very dark wide open. This one - I wasn't sure I was seeing them until my camera picked up the colors. Then I had to really look. Eventually I could distinguish the green and some movement.

I am absolutely jealous you've seen this TWICE! It's on my bucket list. Actually it's one of the only things on my bucket list. I've always planned to take a trip north to catch them though, and do quite a bit of research so I can photograph them well.

I'm excited you got to see them! Thanks for sharing your shot!

Nice! I took mine at a dark sky preserve in Michigan and you're seems just as well. If only I didn't teach a 9am class, I'd have driven up to the mackinac bridge (oddly pronounced mackinaw). One of my students showed me some shots of the lights at the bridge and they were quite impressive :)

Wonderful , I tried but no luck where I was to much light pollution ..just got some chilly fingers and some clouds I think. Still haven't developed my try maybe something will show up playing with exposure and contrast

Cool. I've never had the chance to see the aurora. Some day maybe!

We got screwed by clouds here in NH, and I was really sad, but it makes me feel better that so many people further south had their first chance to photograph them. They really are so amazing to see
