How would one go about setting up a camera to automatically take a picture every 24 hours?

Check out Intervalometers. ($40-$60)

These connect to your camera (need one which is compatible of course) and can then be set to trigger your photos at various times.

Or connect to PC/laptop. There's various software which can be used to connect to the camera and trigger shots at timed intervals.
