Autowinder Question

I have a Canon A-1 with an Arkon PowerWinder. This stuff is really old, so I don't have an instruction manual for the winder. Anyway for some reason the fastest setting on it is winding every 5 seconds, which is way to slow. It has a manual setting, but I don't know how to use it. Any tips?

BTW this is my first post. I just started a photo class at school and am using my dad's camera. In the past I've only used digital still cameras, and tons of video (see my profile).
