I think it'd be more appealing in all color... selective coloring almost never works, though this isn't horrible.

What do you think the processing adds to the photo, that it was missing before?

I think that it the B&W gives it a bit more contrast, and forces a focal point. Thanks for the feedback!

I don't get it. What does the selective coloring accomplish here? You say that it forces a focal point, but I'm not really seeing it. The radio tower (?) is arguably reinforced slightly, but it's still lost in the muddle of the skyline.

I agree with the radio tower comment, but it's already so seperate from the rest, of course putting it against a black/grey BG will make it "pop"... but I don't think it helps the photo as a whole, either.

So, OP, is it contrast your looking to add to this? Have you played with curves? Or maybe add a gradient to your sky to make it a bit more interesting? Just throwing ideas out

Ah... so I think some context is required... The shot is of downtown Phoenix. The white building is the former Westward Ho hotel, built in 1928. It has historical significance, and is one of the most recognized landmarks in the state.

Mostly, I was just going for something away from what I normally do. I've never done selective coloring in anything that I have ever done. I liked the look, but wanted to see what others thought of it. Now I know. When trying something new one of two things will happen; it works, or you'll learn something. Glad that I had a chance to learn something.
