Baby Great Horned Owls

those are great! I especially like the first one. The light seems a tad harsh but I like that, it feels like it makes it seem a little more epic. well done!

I didn't read that last line until *after* I showed her all of the photos (had to yell "Brynley! Get in here, You'll love these!"), and of course got plenty of "awwwww"s and "oooooh"s from her.

Personally, I love the sharp talon showing in #3 and #4, reminding us that while he's cute, he may not be cuddly, and will grow up to eat all our small pets.

I award you 27 photography points, as follows:
... 5 points for eliciting the response from my daughter
... 5 points for knowing in advance you were going to elicit the response
... 5 points for taking your wife
... 5 points for catching the talon there on #3 and #4
... and I suppose the remaining 7 for getting sweet pics of something not ever seen in many people's lifetimes

Kevin

Thanks, while I was processing them I remembered how you said your daughter loved fat fluffy birds, glad she liked 'em.

Totally just had a squee moment when I saw these. They are such a lump of fluff! I bet that would be soft to hug, well except for them biting you with their beak and the moms claws in the back of your skull. But still, it might be worth it.

yeah, I got a pic of mom last time I was up there, I definitely wouldn't want to get on her bad side :D thanks!

nice photos.

I think you may be on the right track with the wife. I brought mine one time, but there was not much activity and only herons and egrets, so she said I will be in the car... I failed, now I probably never will get another chance. LOL

She always makes fun of me for wanting to go shoot birds. but after she came to look at the owls, I got a call from her saying "I can't believe I'm calling you about this, but I saw a large bird soaring way above the house, I tried to take a picture of it but it didn't come out, what do you think it was?"...so I think she understands the appeal of birding/bird photography a little more. she wants to go rent the movie 'the big year' now too, which is about a birding contest.
I agree with the folks above! :headbang:

I know it wouldn't be a good idea, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to scoop up the owl in shot 2 and nuzzle it.

Thanks! yeah they look SOOOO cuddly.

Stupendous! And look at the size of their feet!

heh I noticed the same thing, its like they need to grow into their feet size.

Cool photos. I like the second one a lot. Nice shootin.

heh thanks! That the "I THINK I JUST HEARD A CAMERA SHUTTER" face...

Excellent shots!

Thanks!

Thanks! yeah, the only time I could get up there was right at noon, but luckily they were facing the correct way so they weren't completely in the shadows. especially the owl in shots 1 and 2, I was surprised he/she wasn't anywhere around shade, for a nocturnal bird he/she seemed to like the sunshine alot heh.
