Back up body recommendations?

I just recently got my first dslr and I love her, shes a canon t1i with the 18-55, 50 1.8, and im working on a 28-105mm usm II. However, I kinda want a back up body since I got the camera off ebay and I dont have a warranty. Im trying to stick with canon because I already have the lenses and stuff. My budget was about $300 and I saw the 40D. What do you guys think? I know it its only 10megapixels but hey, they arent everything. I try to frame my photos so I dont have to crop and I dont plan on printing above 8.5x11.

Any other recommendations on another camera to look for or any advice on the 40D? Any help at all would be great. Thanks in advance

Just incase anything were to happen to my current camera. Like I said, I dont have a warranty. Or maybe im doing a shoot and it dies, ill have a back up.

The only reason I would have a back up is if I am doing a risky shoot like a wedding (get paid and no do over). It has nothing to do with warranty. You just got your first camera... have fun with it. Use the money to buy better lenses.

Bodies depreciate quick. Dont get one unless you have to.

When you are going on a trip or doing an important shoot just rent a second body so you have a backup.

Save the $300 and keep adding to it, so that if you have issues with this body, you will be in a position to buy a new one right away without problems.

I say that because, if you are like me (and a lot of others on here) you'll want to upgrade the body before long anyway, so might as well start the fund now. Then when you have the money, you can upgrade and keep this body as your backup.

I hear ya. Just keep researching. I thought maybe I'd replace my T3i with a 60d but I am now wanting a 7D or a 5D III.

went from a xs to. 60d then to a 7d. Don't waste your time on the 60 if you really want the 7. The 7 is a much better camera and worth the extra cash.

Are you taking on clients? If so, I would upgrade your current camera and use t1i as a backup. Or I would scrap the whole back up thing, and invest in some new lenses.
