I'm so excited to have these guys stick around this year! Last year they showed up and I didn't figure out what they liked soon enough and they looked for sweeter pastures, they LOVE sweet stuff!

This year I was ready for them and nailed it with Jam on the first try :) They also quite like bananas!

The first one is one of the girls, this little lady has no tail! Usually that means she is the proverbial "one that got away". She looks like she is coping quite well and is even gathering nesting material!

And the beautiful male.

I put out a tablespoon of jam in the mornings and by late day they are licking up the remnants on the rock :)

Great shots and text. No orioles out here, but it would be fun to try different foods with some of the local birds.
Is the relative darkness of the last two on purpose? Because I really like it. Might have to give it a shot.

Thanks Brian :)

I'm working on working WITH the available light I have instead of bringing everything up in post to look like it was shot in bright sunlight. The day was very overcast and he is low to the ground close to the house and I'm shooting from the shaded side, you can see the light on his back is coming from behind him (I totally have to move this setup so I can get around it better for different angles).

Gees you get some colours up your way in birds. Stunning bird and well taken as well. No tail, well as long as its surviving is what's important and that's good to know. These came out well in tough lighting conditions, I'm not a fan of flash and used used it only once in so many years that I don't want to think about it :) So this suits me more than flash, well handled IMO.

All the best Judi.

Danny.

Thanks Danny :)
Wait until I get a shot of our little Indigo Buntings! There are only two that visit and they are the most gorgeous blue! If only they would sit still and pose for me but they are quite timid little guys and I've only gotten very few shots of them so far.
