Band Photos Attempt 2 C+C

This go around, lighting wasn't like the night prior. It was much more... psychedelic.
This was a reggae/ska band, music was slower but the lighting changed much more rapidly.
At least it felt that way.

This band was boring to photograph. Not my kind of music, and after about 60 photos or so, the pictures started to look the same
so I stopped pretty early.

I tend to take more photos of the lead singer, and I'm assuming it's for 2 reasons:

1. He's not crowded by equipment
2. He does more moving then anyone else.

Since you have no control over the lighting you have to suffer with what they give you. On some you could reduce the saturation and or convert to B&W. It is always a challenge in photography and after 40+ years at this I have many war stories ...but also great memories.

I converted most to b+w but I didn't want to cop out in a way. In the event that I ever do a shoot where the client wants all colored photos, I want to be well versed in dealing with the light. I didn't think to decrease the saturation, but I'm going to have to check that out. Thanks for the input.

#1 looks a little underexposed to me.

#1, 3, 5 and the last one could also stand to be desaturated a bit. Actually, when I do that, I use vibrance in LR, not saturation. And if it's only one specific color (usually red... I HATE red lights... :er: ), I'll use the HSL sliders instead and just pull down the red or red *and* orange channels.

The last one could also be bumped up a little.

But seriously... good start. :sillysmi:

As far as dropping the saturation, I don't know if it's the light or not, but it makes the image very flat and dull. I also use Photoshop's ACR, and I heard LR's sliders are better/different.

For the last image... that was brought up quite a bit and I think that's as far as the noise and posterization is allowing me to take it :/. For where he was standing, I needed F/2.

Yeah that can happen with desaturated... you kind of have to just play with it. Sometimes adjusting the WB will help too.

Yeah, this lighting is definitely above my scope of knowledge.
Shot 14 bit raw.
