I have a basic (and possibly dumb) question. Do new lenses come with hoods? My kit lens did not. Should I get one for my kit? Which do I get for a Nikon 18-55mm kit lens? Thanks in advance. Nick

Usually they will come with a lens hood but not always. I use an HB-45 for mine, works fine. I just leave it on the lens, never found a need to remove it after I put it on - oh, and in answer to the question do you need it? I'd say it's a very good investment. Helps protect the lens, prevents stray light from hitting the lens at odd angles while you shoot, and they are dirt cheap so well worth it IMHO.

Some do, some don't. My first kit included two lenses, (both new) the 55-200 has a hood, the 18-55 doesn't.

The bayonet mount hood for the 55-200 will not work on the 18-55 because that lens doesn't have the bayonet lugs to mount the hood. You can probably get a third-party hood that is friction-mount for your 18-55.

When I bought a lens that didn't come with a lens hood, I simply went to the B&H Photo web site, entered that lens, and then scrolled down. On the right side of the screen, they showed several lens hoods available for my lens. I waited until I ordered some other items from B&H and added that in. That way I got free shipping.
