Photos OK to edit
Last weekend I did a photoshoot for my friend who DJ's in the Bay Area. Took over a hundred photos. These are the ones I liked the best. Tell me what you think. This was my first photoshoot by the way. Natural light only!

his head appears to be glowing in 3 and 4.

that was the idea here. I know its a little over processed, but he likes the look.

thanks for the critique though!

you edited the 3rd anfd 4th one too much.

also, you cut off at the knees in the 4th one, this makes him look weird

Don't get it at all...why not show him doing whatever it is he does? These look rather 'plain'. Nothing going on...a guy wandering around with headphones....a guy staring at a glass building...what is the point? Doesn't connect with me at all...

the last is probably the best out of the bunch

good point!

maybe take this same guy and setup some very basic of his equipment outside for him to pose with

What I mean is these don't communicate 'this guy is a DJ'. In themselves they're not necessarily good or bad...for the most part...but what I think the assignment is has been not brought out. I'm not saying they are either good or bad, just not to the point...

4 is definitely sharper than 2... but... 4 is tilting him forward, making it feel like he's going to fall forward out of the frame, while 2 is leaning him back, making it feel like the wall is supporting him... if that makes any sense.

Isn't that No. 5?

Again... most band promos don't usually say anything more than "here is a group of guys standing on some stairs/hanging off a train/leaning up against a brick wall

I mean, sure... bring equipment into the shot if you want, but I think if he threw any of these shots on a flier advertising a gig, no one is going to go "waaaaaaaaaaaait a minute! THAT guy CAN'T be a DJ! Where is all his equipment!" :lmao:

LOL

I just mean that without being told this guy is a DJ I would not have guessed it. I'm not commenting on their quality one way or another.

Band photos are a bit more contextless...you can tell it's a band, usually.

lol you're right. i've seen plenty of flyers for jams with DJ's and the photos have no indication they are a DJ/Producer except maybe a piece of clothing with a label on it or some headphones or a record.

thanks for all your critique. I see you guys had some fun talking on here. lol

ya I'm aware #3 and #4 and highly processed (thats what he wanted, did on purpose)

and these shots were meant to "promote" him as a DJ.

Oh ya this was a free shoot by the way just because hes a close friend and it was good practice for me.

I'm new when it comes to taking photos of people, especially a photo-shoot, but I hope to get better and better, each time I go out.

thanks again for ur C&C. much appreciated!
