Because I knew what it actually was, I liked the first shot the best...very interesting close up like that. Maybe adjust the aperture to get more of the lizard in focus next time.

Smaller aperture and wider angle for the first one...the head is cut off. Also, the white balance is noticeably off.

Maybe just try cropping the bottom off of the first, so that no black is visible. That sometimes gets rid of the arguably unappealing look of the head being partially cut off.

I like the second one. We have bearded dragons here too, is that the right colour? Ours are more greyish, and the ones that live near the creeks are greenish and have longer spikes, we call them water dragons. They are quick, when we were kids we always tried catching them but I never could. Does he point his nose up high and proud? I think a lower angle would capture that better if he is the same species I know.
