6 bracketed pics through various processes and I am OK with the end result but not blown away.

Very bright dusty day with clouds.

What would you have done different?

I dont have LR or PS so please dont reference those programs. I am looking more for what people would try to achieve rather than the technical process.

This is good! If not LR or PS, what software did you use?

Paint Shop Pro 7 (vignette, sharpen), Photomatix (stacking, Detail enhancement), Neat Image (noise reduction), Irfanview (catalogue, shrinking for forum)

I would have shot the scene using a graduated ND filter and a polarizer. As far as your approach, it certainly works, but I find the vignette a little heavy.

Honestly, I think it looks overworked. I would split the difference between the original and the revised shot, and call it good. As tirediron mentioned, the vignette looks a bit too obvious. I see tinges of yellow in the cloud formation, and the blue sky areas are trending toward very, very deep, detail-less darkness. It just looks like it has been "worked on" too much.

Strangely I am going to purchase ND filterage this weekend but it was taken with a polarising filter.

Any pic from the desert looks totally flat and it takes a lot of work to generate an interesting image. I agree it looks a bit beaten up but sometimes it is a bit hard to know when to stop.

I like it.

Thank you.

I actually like the darker edges but hey each to their own.

The only part that looks over-worked to me is the sky.

IIRC, PSP has selection tools so you can do local edits in lieu of only doing global edits.

No need for bracketing in this scene one raw file would contian all the needed data to make your final image. The dynamic range of this scene does not exceed the dynamic range that a camera can capture so no bracketing is needed.

I have not done much work with RAW but next time I am out doing desert landscapes I will pop off a few and see how it goes.

Is there enough RAW features and implementation in PSP alone? I have PaintShop Pro 6 Ultimate and that appears to be the newest version. Am I missing something?

I just got AfterShot Pro 2 yesterday because of its seamless integration with PSP. I've never processed RAW before, so I'm looking forward to the experience.

PSP you are referring to is owned by COREL I am still using the 15 year old version by JASC which was created before the RAW format existed.

Dont skip over learning to edit a raw file and jump into bracketing for HDR processing. Start with learning the basics.
