Beginner Question!

I need some feedback, I've been dreaming to become a photographer, just really don't know exactly how to start. I just want feedback on routines I should start doing, or thing to help me build my skills, anything would be nice. Thanks!

Buy camera. Take photos.

Actually just find a subject you enjoy taking photos of and just run with it. Learn the basics and the rest will come over time. Id invest in an entry level dslr which every brand you prefer and just start out reading alot and shooting even more!

I've been actually running around scouting for a good first-camera-buy. Maybe a Cannon EOS Rebel T1i? I'm not really favorited towards Nikon or Canon yet, never really tried either of em to typically "choose a a side".

Nikon is GREAT for stills and lacks some video quality and Canon shoots Great stills and INCREDIBLE video... The lord of the Rings movies were all shot with a Canon ( I believe )

I read/study photography weekly just to find new things to learn. As I'm typing this my camera is 4 inches from my body lol. My camera is my sidekick. Just get out there and learn it inside and out. Start by buying a camera and reading the manual, when you get to a part in the manual that you don't understand then that's your first study topic.

I really appreciate your feedback guys. And hm, maybe portraits? Cityscape photography, color? I'll probably experiment with each topic, & for the past hour I've been looking at camera specs, I'm looking at a Nikon D5000, I really like it for a first camera.

Learn all you can about light - what it is, what it does, how it reacts. As you go about your normal day, think about what sort of light there is and what it's doing to the things around you.

Buy yourself an old, fully mechanical SLR and an external light meter (cheap as chips on Ebay) and use negative film. If you can, develop your own film - perhaps you can share a darkroom somewhere, otherwise try a few different labs until you find a good one.

Get to know your equipment and practise until the technical side of things becomes second nature. In next to no time you will be able to estimate quite accurately what camera settings are needed according to light, film speed and situation.

Once you have learnt the basics, you can invest in a DSLR, but starting your photography with analogue will give you a firm grasp of the basics.

My stepdad is looking into giving me his old Nikon n5005. With an external flash, and another lens. So, that camera should be good for my beginner start.

If you think they're shooting that kind of movies using simple dslr's you're sadly mistaken.
