I have recently purchased a Nikon D90 with 55-200mm lens. What other len(s) should I look at getting. My interests are generally anything from portraits to landscape scenes and occasional close-ups, flowers etc? I have the opportunits of getting a 18-55 VR and 70-300 VR at very good prices (second hand) but from what I can see, I wont gain too much with these. Comments and advice are much appreciated.

You will gain the 18-55 focal length range plus 100 mm more reach, and the 70-300 VR is a better lens than the 55-200 is. You could then sell the 55-200 to help offset the purchase price of the 2 lenses.

The small 15 mm focal length gap between 55 mm and 70 mm can be covered by moving just a step or two.

18-55 mm is much more useful for the occasional close-up, flower, and landscape work than 55 mm and up is.

You need something to cover the range below 55mm.

If your just starting with a SLR the 18-55 is a good match for the 55-200 that you have.

Their are better lenses but if your are still learning its a good inexpensive lens to cover the the things you have indicated.

IMO the 70-300 is a much better lens than the 55-200. While they cover a similar range image quality to me seems much better on the 70-300. I have not used my 55-200 since I got the 70-300.
