Best Public Exposure For Shots?

Hey, I'm looking for website suggestions to get maximum public exposure to my pictures, I know about Flickr but is there anything out there or would Flickr the de-facto out there.

Not that I have ever been aware of, Flickr and DeviantArt are the only two I have ever used. But the trick is pushing your work, you cannot just upload and hope people will find you, you've got to tag your photos with as many useful tags as you are able and be active on the site. Then, the popularity you seek will come, that is if your photos are interesting enough.

Tagging your photos makes it so much easier for others to find, steal, and use your photos without your permission.

In fact Getty Images has people who's job is to search out and cruise the new tagged images that get posted on Flickr every day.

However, as xjoewhitex points out, there is no substitute for advertising and promoting as a means to get your work in front of people.

I wonder what you hope to gain by 'maximum public exposure'? If you are hoping to make money, you have to identify which people need to see your work.

Most of the images used as stock have people in them and most stock houses require valid model relaeses from the people in the photos. The vast % of stock photos that get licensed for use are composed so there is blank space conveniently located in the photo for ad copy placement. Stock photo incomes today are a very small fraction of what they were 15 and more years ago. When a photographer gets paid all of $30 for the use of his stock photo on the cover of a national, monthly issue of Time magazine, something is really goofed up with the stock photo industry relative to being a photographer. Staff photographer jobs are virtually non-existant today. What few editorial staff jobs remain go to those that hustle and go get them, rather than to those that sit back and wait for a future job offer. All the staff photographers whose jobs have been eliminated over the last 10 years by the digital SLR camera explosion and the consolidation of the stock photography industry, became free-lance, independent photographers, or learned a new skill.

If you aspire to doing commercial photography in NYC, you'll likely need to be accepted by an artist or photographer's representative. Of course, learning how to start, manage, advertise, promote, and maintain an independent business would help a lot.

Oh yes right now 90% leaning for t2i, I like the t4i but it's just a little out of my budget right now, I rather get a solid affordable body and buy some quality lenses and what not.

Interesting advice and I'll definitely keep that in mind, it's almost sad to what it's become. I guess because photography has become so "dumbed" down in a way. Hell, if I ever in my life time took a picture and it was publicized and stated my name and paid me a dollar, I'd be honored. But you know, as of right now it's more of a future back thought kind of thing.
