I currently have a Canon Powershot S1 IS, which is good for vacations and planned shots, but isn't the best for concerts due to its size. I was wondering what the best small form factor camera was. Heres what I'm looking for: 4MP+ 3x or more optical zoom as small as possible $300 or less Canon has a ton of small form factor cameras, as does many other camera makers, and I have no idea what is the best.
Check out the Canon A610, or if you want even smaller look at the A520. I have the A510 (didn't need the extra MP), and it's a great little camera. Full manual modes. They might even take slightly better shots than the S1 IS as they are newer DIGI's (of course you'll lack the 10x zoom).
Oh yea...Check out the Elph's if manual modes aren't so important and you are looking for real small...But I walk around with my A510 in my jeans pocket. It isn't uncomfortable for me and I appreciate the availabilty of the manual modes.
I saw one of these in the pub the other day and it was impressively small and the images looked great (on it's screen). I'm actually considering one as a social camera http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canonsd400/ Rob
I have a Canon Digital Ixus and it is superb. Will even take short video's with sound. http://www.letsgodigital.org/en/camera/review/36/page_1.html
