P&S Recommendations?

My daughter is looking for an inexpensive point and shoot to keep in her purse. I tried convincing her that her iPhone was good for that but she was seduced by some nice photos her friend took with a newish Canon Powershot. Checked out the prices on those and even used it seems most are $300+. She’s hoping to spend less than that (under $200 would be ideal).

What she cares about:
In camera flash
Fixed lens that zooms
Small and flat to fit in her purse
WiFi connection
Auto modes: landscape, portrait, macro

What she doesn’t care about:
Raw files
Manual exposure controls
A viewfinder

Does anyone have a p&s that they would recommend or care to share thoughts on what to look for?

It's funny how social media has made these P&S cameras relevant again and also driven the prices up. I just got a Sony RX100M1 as a light weight travel option and am amazed at the picture quality. This model is above your daughters price range though. Back in my P&S days, I always liked the Sony CyberShots the best followed by the Panasonic Lumix. I just don't remember the specific models.

I wish now, I wouldn't have given my old P&S away...

I had a small Fujifilm x10 that she used to borrow but I sold it since I wasn’t using it and it was too pricey to just give to her. Also had an old Canon powershot film camera that I loved when I was her age.

She already has my xt2 and 16-80 but that’s too bulky for every day carry…. I use my iPhone for a lot these days unless I’m specifically going out to shoot something.

I new iPhone cameras are pretty amazing. My phone is supplied by and paid for by he company I work for, so the latest and greatest phone is not high on their priority list.

True. I had a few coworkers that used their work phones for personal use and when they got laid off they were suddenly scrambling to get a new phone and had to jump through a lot of hoops to keep the same number.

Yeah, I've seen that happen as well. I've been with them for 30 years now and have given them several reasons to can me over the years, but they haven't yet, so hopefully I'll be good for another 3 1/2 years.

Even though a "run of the mill" cell phone will outperform most P&S's, once a teenager gets it into their head that they want something, it's hard to change their mind. These canon powershots look pretty nice.

Shop for something with ZERO cachet like the cheapie Kodaks or even cheaper no-name p&s cameras. Doubt any of the early Fuji models are bargains.

Re-asked my co-worker. He said if you need to stay near $200 for a new one you can look at the Kodak Pixpro series or the Minolta MND70, MNB52. Hope this helps.
