Hey I'm looking to purchase a new tripod setup and would like to hear people's opinions!

What equipment do you have?

Manfrotto has a rebate program now. I just bought 055XPROB legs with a 498rc2 ball head for my son for Christmas. It came to about $250 after rebate.

5D mark ii, heaviest lens is 70-200mm f/2.8 so nothing huge. I am not really concerned about weight

But you need to be. In general practice, your head should be rated at about 3 times the most weight you ever plan on putting on it. You should probably also think about any future purchases that may be on the camera when it's on your tripod, and factor their weights in. With that said, and if you already know that, my apologies, I second the previous response. You can easily do something all Manfrotto in your price range. About 5 years ago I picked up a 3221WN and a 484RC2 head for about $250 I believe.

I just bought the Cullmann Magnesit 525M with a ball head for less than 200 euros. Seems very nice and sturdy. It comes with a short middle pole and a long one that can be also be used as a monopod. The short one is good for taking macro shots near the ground. The brochure said it can take a 6 kilogram load, so that should be enough. Also came with a 10 year warranty.

Just a warning on this, the rebate doesn't cover if the tripod/head are bought from amazon. Apparently they are not an authorized etailer, but the rebate form doesnt say anything about this. Needless to say I was a bit upset to find that out :(

I didn't know that either. Although I bought from Adorama so should get the rebate with no issue.

My experience recently: if you order from BHPHOTO you'll get the rebate forms and reciept to file with in the box with the tripod and head.
