I referred to UV filters and it applies to any flat glass filter, However I appreciate the red herring.

Since a UV filter is nothing more than a piece of flat optical glass, the brand or price is not important. I suppose it is possible to buy one that is not flat but I've never encountered one.

Depending upon the brand, the quality of optical glass can vary, or some brands just use plastic.

I suppose but, like I said, I have never encountered one of these.

Brand and Price is important as an initial identifier. Don't expect a $3 plastic Alibaba filter to be *exactly* the same as a $105 Schott glass filter. Though a lot of the plastic ones seemed to have been replaced by low quality glass filters on the low end now. But the glass clarity is probably nowhere near that of a high end one. I have a couple at home, they're practically useless.

TPF is littered with posters asking why their images are OOF/blurry, flare, etc. Everything works fine with they take off the bigbox UV filter.
