I have to say I'm not a fan of the off center crop. To me it just seems misplaced.

You mean like its forcing the RoT's on a subject that doesn't need it. You mean that it's actually ok to center something?

That's exactly the thought process I rail against; applying rules simply because they exist. It just so happens in this case (and most other cases) that, in my opinion of course, the crop I find most aesthetically pleasing is one that happens to be more in line with the rules.
