Best Wide Angle Lens for Nikon. Price matters

any suggestions? I'm thinking of getting this one

I don't know about the optical quality... but it's 18-35mm, and only as wide as a standard kit lens. Are you sure 18mm (which on your D100 is going to behave like a 28mm lens on 35mm film) will be wide enough?

I have the 18-35 and I love it. When stopped down to about f/8 is nice and crisp. What other lenses do you have already? You might want to get the the Tokina 12-24 even though it's $100 more.

sweet, thanks for the input. I think I will give this a try. my first choice was a 12-24mm but the new nikkor is $900 ??

Right. I don't usually go any further than 18mm, so I didn't need either, but if i do, than i'd sell my 18-35 and buy the Nikkor or Tokina 12-24. I don't like buying off camera brand lenses, but if I needed to go wide and was in a crunch, i'd buy the tokina.
